Phone number validator
Check that a number is valid for its country, see what kind of line it is, and whether people report it as spam.
- Format, country and line type
- E.164 formatting for your database
- Spam-complaint score for +1 numbers
Give it something to look up — Glee will do the digging.
How the phone number validator works
Phone numbers typed into forms come in every format, with and without country codes, and a large share are wrong: digits missing, numbers that were never assigned, or a premium-rate line where you expected a mobile. Normalising and validating at entry keeps your contact data usable and stops some fraud before it starts.
The validator checks the number against its country's valid lengths and prefixes for fixed, mobile, toll-free and other line types. It returns the number in E.164, international and national formats, the country, region and time zones, and the carrier the range was originally allocated to. If you omit the + and country code, choose the country so the number can be read.
For North American (+1) numbers we add a spam score: how often people reported the number as an unwanted or robocaller, recently and in total. Numbers seen only as caller ID are weighted down, because caller ID is easily spoofed and the real line's owner may be a victim.
What each field means
- Valid
- The number fits an assigned range in its country.
- Line type
- Fixed, mobile, toll-free, VoIP and so on, from the range — not from a live network query.
- Original carrier
- Who the range was allocated to. Numbers can be moved to another carrier.
Where this check stops
- A valid format does not prove the number is in service, reachable, or still with its original carrier.
- The spam score covers +1 numbers only; elsewhere no score means not covered, not clean.

Frequently asked
Does it call or text the number?
No. Nothing is sent to the number.
Why is the carrier called original?
Numbers can be ported between carriers, and that is only visible to the networks themselves.
