How the company search works
Before you sign a contract, onboard a supplier or approve a business account, the first question is the simplest: does this company legally exist, and is it still active?
This search covers registered companies in the United Kingdom, France, Norway and Canada, and every legal entity in the world that holds a Legal Entity Identifier (LEI), which includes most banks, funds and companies that trade financial instruments. Type a name and every word must match, previous and trade names included; type a registration number with its country, or a 20-character LEI, to go straight to the record.
Each record shows the registered name, number, status (active, inactive, dissolved), legal form, incorporation date, registered address and industry codes where available. Personal contact details are deliberately not included; who runs the company is a separate check.
What each field means
- Status
- active, inactive or dissolved.
- Number
- The national registration number, or the LEI for an entity known only by it.
- Incorporated
- The date the entity was formed.
Where this check stops
- A matching name and website do not establish that a domain belongs to that legal entity.
- Company records change over time; recent changes can take a few days to appear. Sole traders are not always covered.
